Good Friday in Pampanga. Flagellant.
The flagellant beats his back to draw blood from the wounds using a length of knotted rope with short wooden sticks or bamboo, each one tied to a cord then bunched together. Each stick signifies the number of years the penitensiya will be performed; a stick is removed every year. But if a piece of the entire penitential tool falls, the penitent must start anew.
